When we walked up the stairs to Sandy Campy Fitness, we instantly felt a sense of community. Students and staff were chatting with each other and lots of laughter could be heard in the hallway as everyone waited for the class before ours to conclude.
We were greeted by the smiling manager, Fran, as well as the owner and our Zumba instructor, Sandy. They had a sisterly-like bond, both so passionate about the studio they had built together. One student started reminiscing on how SC Fitness had gone from just a few ladies working out together to a full-on fitness community in just a few short years. Our class was packed with ladies of all ages and fitness levels.
Sandy emphasized just having fun and connecting with the music instead of worrying about the steps. She also acknowledged the “Inspiration of the Month,” a student who is acknowledged for their hard work and dedication to staying fit. After a quick warm-up, we got the heart pumping with creative choreography that was repeated several times throughout one song.
Sandy’s dancing abilities were inspirational and she did a great job of finding ways to work every body part simultaneously! We literally danced, shimmied, and moved non-stop for a good 45 minutes. But the best part was that it felt more like a dance party vs. a workout and we found ourselves smiling through the sweat.
